Diffuse Cervico-Facial Cellulitis: Epidemiological and Clinical Aspects of 297 Cases

Introduction: Cervicofacial cellulitis is a medical and surgical emergency, it an extensive infection of the aponeurotic spaces face neck. Although frequent in black Africa rather than developed countries, they remain associated with poor prognosis few studies have been done on this subject. Their management must be early, probabilistic then adapted to bacteriological results pus taken. As Senegal one many sub-Saharan African countries without recent data cervicofacial cellulitis, we felt was important review situation. The aim our study describe epidemiological clinical aspects ENT department Lamine Sine DIOP Fann National University Hospital Dakar. Materials Method: This retrospective conducted over 5 years from January 2017 December 2021 ENT-CCF LAMINE SINE Department CHNU FANN Our sources were hospitalization registers records patients hospitalized for cellulitis. analyzed using spss 12 windows software. Results: During 5-year period, collected 297 cases i.e. 19% hospitalizations. average age 35 sex ratio 2.23. notion taking NSAIDs found 90.57% cases, immunocompromised background present 18 patients, 6.06% cases. site swelling sub-mento-maxillary 49% anterior cervical 5% portal entry dental 189 64% unknown 3%. 4 deaths recorded, 1.35% 1 case mediastinitis polyseritis transferred Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery, which had favourable outcome. Conclusion: fairly common developing countries. They affect relatively young healthy segment population. At Dakar, are increasingly linked use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
